How To Use Video Playlists On The RJ iPhone And iPad App

A few weeks ago, we released an update to our iOS app (for iPhone & iPad) that features music video playlists. It's been quite a popular feature on our site and many are taking advantage of it on our apps. The idea is as simple as it sounds, you can create your own custom playlists of videos and just have them play back-to-back. With RJ's huge library of music videos, this becomes very powerful. Our staff also creates and updates our own featured playlists, which you can use as well.

But we thought to write up a quick blog post walking you through how this can be done on the app. First, make sure to have the latest version installed from the App Store. When you first load up the app and you want to create your own playlists, you'll need to login to your Radio Javan account.

If you don't have an account with us yet, you can signup here. The reason we require a Radio Javan account is to sync up your playlists across all your devices and also the website. Next, let's show you how to add a video to a playlist. When you go to any video, you will see a plus (+) icon. Using that will bring up a choice of playlists. "Instant Queue" is the default one, which is useful if you don't want to name your playlist but just want to quickly queue up videos. You can also of course go to "New Playlist" to name your own.

You can continue adding as many videos as you like. After you've added some videos, you can use the Playlist section to start watching or managing your playlists. For the iPhone app, this is another menu option on the home dashboard. And on the iPad, also on the home dashboard (or any video screen), there is a playlist icon on top that let's you quickly access this.

Here you will see 3 sections for Featured, Charts, and My Playlists. Featured playlists are ones that the Radio Javan staff makes and we continue to keep those updated. Charts are where you can watch all the top videos for this month, for example. And My Playlists is simply your own playlists that you've made. Under My Playlists, you can delete an entire playlist, remove videos from an individual playlist, or rearrange the order. Again, when you make these changes, it's automatically synched up with your account.

Ok, now to the fun part. You can pick any playlist you want and start playing. There's an option to play them in the order listed or you can use shuffle. If you select a specific video, it will start the playlist from there. Once you do that, the video player will show up and you'll see all the videos in your playlist.

Got it? It's that easy. One of my favorite features of this whole thing is to use Airplay. Basically if you have an Apple TV ($99), you can show the videos straight on your TV. So I always just have an hour or so long queue of videos playing on my TV. And the best part is that the videos are shown in HD with really high quality. So long Persian satellite TV!

And there you have it. This is just one of the newest features we have for you on Radio Javan, enjoy!
