Dariush... the legend, and one of my personal favorite male vocalists of all time is back once again with a new album after a four year hiatus from the music scene. On the heels of his breathtaking Raaheh Man (My Way) released in 2005, his new epic work entitled Mojezehyeh Khaamoosh (The Silent Miracle) takes us on a new musical journey with powerful lyrics and goosebump inducing soundscapes.

Dariush is a man who has managed to maintain the same formula in each and every album he has released: deep, thought provoking, socio-political messages and melodies that carry you away, but nonetheless he has managed to carve a niche in the music world and continues to do so with each and every work he releases.

Working with an all star production team consisting of the likes of Iraj Janati Ataie, Ardalan Sarfaraz, Shahyar Ghanbari, Farid Zoland and Manoochehr Cheshm-Azar, this collection comes together as some of his most powerful and inspirational yet. The collection boasts 10 new pieces that are sure to make you shed tears and introspect on life, love, and the paths we have all traversed through.

1. SHATRANJ - The album opens up with Shatranj, a musical piece laden with political messages of a world divided, of mankind separated, black on one side white on another, where we are doomed to remain in this game pitted against each other. There are very deep and powerful messages throughout the piece and the song is very dark in its sound and very much like a political anthem complete with subtle gothic-sounding chants throughout the background.

2. TAGHVIM - The moodiness of the album continues with a rather dark sounding song called Taghvim. Rather dark lyrics portray a world where the only transitions of "time", whether day-to-day or month-to-month, are of pain and heartache… Only do we see the deeper meaning behind the song when we reach the end where we have to change the world for ourselves and create a new beginning.

3. SAATE SHOOM - This track is my absolute favorite piece on the album. The track, although musically a little bit more uplifting following two pieces relying on deep dark construction, still holds a foreboding message. The hour of doom has arrived, or so it seems, as Dariush questions a state of existence where it seems as if even darker times follow on the heels of some of the worst: a sort of bad raft o badtar oomad concept.

4. SHABTAB - This piece opens with a sort of mystic, sitar based intro. Very beautifully done musical piece, seems almost tribal at times throughout the track. One of the album's more unique and experimental tracks, with deep and almost dark lyrics, this song is another fantastic work.

5. DELTANGAM - A piano built intro spreads into beautifully orchestrated musical piece about heartbreak and longing. Although discussing sadness, the imagery portrayed in the words is absolutely beautiful. The metaphors and similes build a powerful picture in my mind when I hear this song.

6. MOJEZEYEH KHAAMOOSH - The title track of the album, shines as one of the album's stand out tracks. The chorus really grabs you and the musical breaks and truly beautiful. This is such a powerful piece that relays an even more powerful message to its listeners. Overall just a flawless song.

7. HAMDARD - Starting off with a rather unique violin solo, the song transforms in to a rather beautifully constructed orchestral piece with a light Latin flare. This piece has very romantic lyrics with a very passionate message behind them.

8. TASVIRE ROYA - Nighttime sounds of crickets and a dramatic piano intro, complete with beautiful female vocals builds a dreamlike landscape for this track. Dariush's vocals sound so breathy and delicate while the music itself sounds almost naked and barren in the beginning behind his singing and keeps it almost in a lullaby form until it shines in the middle during the bridge. Truly awe inspiring.

9. AVAZE PARIHA - This song is a very smooth, mellow sounding track. Sounds very much like the material that Barry Gibb composes and can almost be a song that someone like Barbra Streisand could have added to her last studio effort, Guilty Pleasures (if you check out that album you will see what I mean). Very classy and very sophisticated in its construction and it just screams Dariush from the beginning; a very romantic piece to listen to and enjoy.

10. RAHI - This track starts out sounding very similar to his hit song Aahay Mardomeh Donyaa, musically at least. The music is fantastic and is a great way to close off the album on a more upbeat note. The music built around the chorus is great and the vocal performance done truly shines with the orchestral rhythm in the background.

This review has been the most difficult for me to complete. I had to replay this album, song by song, over and over to grasp the deeper meanings of the words that Dariush is singing. What can be said of the album overall? I can say that this is another masterpiece in the Dariush music catalogue. Dreamlike musical rhythms and a cashmere-like voice that seems to get even better with age make this an absolutely brilliant collection for any music fan. Dariush really took his time with this album and it really shows the hard work and effort everyone put into the collection.
