Tara Khaanoom is finally back with her
new album Hedieh (The Gift) after a near
6-year hiatus from the music world. Her
last major work came around in 2002 with
her album Leili and then career and
personal obligations ensued. I
personally missed her and her music and
was really glad she decided to come
back.
Her Hedieh (The Gift)
album is a very upbeat collection of
music enveloping a wide variety of
genres. I think she managed to touch a
lot of new ground with the productions
and music choices, very nicely expanding
her musical portfolio.
1.
Mitarsam Aashegh Besham is a great way
to open up her album. The immensely taar
and zarb layered track is very catchy
and the production is superb. Very
upbeat and the great use of electronic
and techno mixed in with more
traditional styling give it a very
interesting kind of hybrid feel.
2. Khaabeh Bandar is a great way to
follow the first track. It keeps the
dance and upbeat rhythms going with a
great Bandari flare to the piece. It has
a very very catchy chorus, and one can't
help kind of singing along. The
production is once again very sharp
thanks to Shahram Azar and is a great
addition to any music lovers collection.
This is one of my album favorites.
3. Atr begins with a very
cool kind of whistle and techno layered
intro. The song then kind of flips gears
from the ballad to a fast paced techno
piece. Great use of auto-tune and
vocoder on her voice. A lot of artists
are beginning to explore this sort of
voice manipulation and it works great
with the techno and electronica beat of
the song.
4. Hedieh (The
Gift) is the title track of the CD and
is my favorite song on the album. It’s a
great cross between a laid back Bandari
song and the backbone of an Afghan
inspired piece. The song is very mellow
but also very shaad and danceable backed
by rather romantic lyrics.
5. Mosaafer starts off very close
to a ballad, then immediately transforms
into a fast fast fast paced techno fare.
Great use of layers and the vocal
acrobatics are awesome in this song. I
think it’s a great new path for her with
this track and she should really
experiment more with this kind of
composition.
6. Cheraa
Yaadam Nadaadi? is a nice upbeat song
but it somehow seems to fall flat around
the chorus area. So far every song has
been rather upbeat with no signs of
slowing down. The beat is very samba
inspired and I like the delicate use of
Latin guitarish sounds right before a
wicked electric guitar riffs through it.
7. Velam Kon is a great trans
song. The beat is fantastic. The song
has great layering, done by none other
than Shahram Azar. The song can be a
continuation of Mosaafer but is more
energetic in its production and chorus.
8. Xmas In Las Vegas is a
typical gheraki song. It’s nice, but
nothing too special here in my opinion.
A great kind of promo for all of the
Christmas concerts we have during the
winter holidays out in Las Vegas.
9. Maa Gol Zadim was the soccer
anthem she released a while back on TV.
This and Xmas In Las Vegas were the two
videos released indicating a possible
return to the music for Tara. The song
is ok, once again nothing too special.
Nice patriotism and support for our
beloved soccer team.
I liked
this album very much, however, I
honestly wish she would have left the
last two songs off her album and kept it
at a very nice and high level production
set of 7 tracks. The last two are just
too mediocre in their production and
just sound so outdated when compared to
the other tracks on the album. That is
the only reason why I give this work 4
stars instead of 5.
Great job
Tara Joon, keep up the hard work.
Here’s to your next album. (Try not
to leave us hanging for too long ;-)
love tara and her beautiful voice
