Camp Ayandeh 2008 Report From Emory
July 8, 2008
Iranian Alliances Across Border held their camp for Iranian-American students this past June. It was held at Emory University in Atlanta and students from Alabama, Georgia, Florida, North Carolina, Virginia, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and California attended this week long event.
The event started out on the first day by discussing "What does it mean to be Iranian-American?" as campers were given time to reflect on their heritage and how it affects their identities in order to address the day's theme. The rest of the week included group building activities, learning about Iranian geography and poetry, a Ta'arof Tournament, playing "vasati", and discovering the linguistics and origins of the Persian language. IAAB holds this successful event every year and helps to bring awareness of the Iranian culture and community. Check out their camp blog to view photos and read more about the event! |
