A filmography covering 800 Iranian cinema and TV productions focusing on the theme of the Persian Gulf has been completed by the Farabi Cinematic Foundation. The films listed narrate the eighty-year history of Iran's filmmaking industry, the oldest dating back to 1927 (although some films are undated) when Tehran's first railroad was being established. Some of the much-acclaimed films covered in the work include "The Lor Girl" (1933) and "The Abadan Refinery' (1947)." According to research, 97 directors have produced films on the Persian Gulf, 36 of which were directed by the late Morteza Avini and the others being the works of Akbar Alami (10), Orod Zand (8) and Mani Mirsadeqi (5).
