The Iranian national football team may travel to the United States next month for a friendly match with popular MLS side LA Galaxy. Iran's Football Federation (IFF) confirmed the report, but said the national football team would not travel to the United States unless the U.S Soccer Federation (USSF) submits a formal invitation to the IFF.
"Since an American club has asked for a friendly match with Iran, the USSF should send us a formal invitation. Otherwise, it would not be possible for us to travel to the US," explained Hassan Ghaffari, the head of the IFF Foreign Relations Committee.
LA Galaxy, the Major League Soccer (MLS) champions in 2002 and 2005, had earlier requested a friendly match with Iran.
LA Galaxy became the most famous MLS club when it signed a five-year 250-million-dollar contract with David Beckham last June. The club also hired former Dutch superstar Ruud Gullit as head coach in November 2007.
