Blog / Iran Draws 0-0 Against Syria In WC Qualifier
Iran struggled to tie 0-0 against Syria in the first qualifier for the 2010 World Cup in Tehran's Azadi stadium. This should be the last match under interim coach Mansour Ebrahimzadeh before Spaniar Javier Clemente officially starts his job.
Iran's defense line showed huge weaknesses, defending very deep inside the own half and leaving much space to the Syrian attackers. Team Melli had more possessions in the first half, however, the Syrians were the far more dangerous team before the break. Mehdi Rahmati was played flawlessly as he saved Iran with two great saves in minute 34 and 36 respectively. Iran will next travel to Kuwait for the next World Cup qualifier in March.
