Australian actor Heath Ledger has died in New York City after a suspected drug overdose. He was 28. A New York Police Department spokesman confirmed the actor has been found dead at a SoHo, Manhattan residence, where he had been staying on a temporary basis. Police have said a possible overdose might have caused the death.

Heath Ledger might be best known for his role in Brokeback Mountain which earned him an Oscar nomination. He's also played in the movies The Patriot and 10 Things I Hate About You. His next film will be the blockbuster Batman: The Dark Knight as Heath played the role of the Joker.
