'Persepolis' To Represent France in 2008 Oscars

Marjane Satrapi's animated film Persepolis co-directed with Vincent Paronnaud that earned the Jury Prize at the 60th Annual Cannes International film festival this year will officially represent France at the upcoming Oscars in 2008. Persepolis is due in U.S. theaters in December and no less than 40 countries are distributing it. It has already been nominated for the European Academy Awards.

Based on Marjane Satrapi's internationally heralded graphic novel, the autobiographical tale was adapted for the screen as a black-and-white 2D animated feature. The film is originally in French and an English version of the film with Chiara Mastroianni, Catherine Deneuve, Sean Penn, Iggy Pop and Gena Rowlands has also been recorded.
