Iran's national basketball team scored a victory over its heavyweight rival Lebanon and won Asian Championship, and thereby getting a birth to the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. Iran's coach said, "Great day of Iranian basketball delivered by a great performance. I think it was a great game. And great games need great performance from great teams. On that count my team qualifies to be called a great team."

Iran, playing in its first Asia Championship final, was the only team from the 16-nation tournament to earn a place in the 2008 Summer Games. Hamed Ehadadi led Iran with 31 points as Iran beat Lebanon 74-69.
